Guinness Gives the Green Light!

Guinness Gives the Green Light: What better way to start the new year than to have confirmation from Guinness that we can officially attempt the World Record for the longest lemonade stand on June 11, which they say fits into the category of the "longest temporary bar." The record is 2,571 ft 6 in (just under a 1/2 mile) and was set in Satow, Germany on June 6, 2010. The requirements are achievable, with the main requirement being that it be open to the public and staffed for a minimum of 8 hours. For more information on sponsoring a table, which includes an official World Record Certificate, please go to www.BakeaDifferenceFoundation.org

New Web site and location for the World Record Attempt...

www.BakeaDifferenceFoundation.org: We have been working had this month preparing for the word record attempt on June 11. First, we have an official Bake-A-Difference Foundation Web site up and running where businesses can sign up to sponsor a section of the lemonade stand. In a few months we will add an area where people can volunteer for the various committees. Check it out, it looks pretty cool.

New Location To Be Announced: Yesterday I met with a place to secure the location that will be familiar to everyone and that will allow us to have more than enough room to set a world record. Plus, it will actually save us money. Once I have a firm agreement, I will reveal the location but let's just say you're going to be impressed!

New Date and Updated Information...

NEW DATE FOR THE LEMONADE STAND ATTEMPT AND WHY: We have set a new date for our world record attempt for the longest lemonade stand to Saturday, June 11, 2011. We had hoped to do it in May but realized that was the same day as Claire's day here in Maumee. Claire was a young lady who passed away unexpectedly and to honor her memory and love of reading, her parents started a day that honors and rewards kids for reading, provides literacy-based activities, such as meeting authors and illustrators, and celebrates the joy of life through books. We love this event and want to support it; therefore, we did not in anyway want to take away from the tradition and celebration.

A FEW FACTS SO FAR: Did you realize that to create a 1/4 mile long lemonade stand (the goal) will take 165 eight-foot long tables, approximately 650 gallons of lemonade to sold for charity, and 300 lbs of ice?  We plan to share each step of the way on our attempt to set the Guinness World Record! We hope to have volunteer subcommittees established soon...please stay tuned!

Featured Hero

Gabriel is currently the featured Hero on Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Web site.

The journey begins...

It was approximately one year that my stepson Gabriel was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer. Throughout his trials he was an inspiration to not only our family, but to people throughout the world. He passed away on April 26, 2010 and is the inspiration for this world record attempt.
